Horses: Saratoga Style is an exhibit of twenty-four full size thoroughbred horse sculptures created by artists in Saratoga Springs, New York. This endeavor, similar to the Chicago Cows and various similar exhibits around the country, focuses on the Saratoga horseracing theme. Artists received corporate sponsorship to complete their horses, which are on exhibit throughout the streets of Saratoga Springs for the summer and fall of 2002.
Deborah Webster's horse, Sargo, was purchased by Saratoga National Golf Club and is now a permanent installation in their collection. Although he appears to be a bronze sculpture, the horse is a mixed media compilation of handmade papers and items from Saratoga National and their restaurant. Rich oil colors and metallic pigments transformed the surface into a textured story.
Sargo is the whimsical embodiment of our memories old and new. Visitors enjoy the search-and-find aspect of Sargo looking for embedded golf balls, tees, club heads, sushi mats, golf gloves and many other items.Visit Saratoga National Golf Club for more information on Sargo.
